The government and the Jewish Agency are preparing for the possible immigration of thousands of Jews from Iran if the civil strife in that country continues. Representatives of the Absorption Ministry and the Jewish Agency’s immigration department met here Thursday to discuss establishment of receiving centers and temporary living quarters for Iranian Jews. The number of Iranian Jews arriving in Israel increased dramatically even before the outbreak of rioting in Teheran. While only 30 Jews immigrated to Israel from Iran in all of 1976 and 1977, 500 arrived during the first ten months of 1978. The Iranian Jewish community numbers about 80,000.
