The Israel Embassy communicated today with the Department of State concerning Israel’s vital interest in the Big Four meeting at Berlin.
Israel informed American officials of the situation involving its claims against East Germany, which has rejected all approaches to the restitution question. The American Government was advised, too, that Israel is counting on the continued operation of the restitution treaty with the Bonn Government.
Dr. Chaim Yahil, deputy head of the Israel Purchasing Mission in Cologne, has been designated by Israel as its observer. He will be in Berlin for the duration of the talks and in a position to represent Israel. The American authorities were advised of this.
