Israel is among the 10 Western nations where infant mortality is at a minimum, according to Prof. Baruch Modan, director general of the Health Ministry. When Israel was established in 1948, there were 50 deaths for every 1,000 births. Presently, there are only 10 deaths per 1,000 births.
