Israel is investigating whether surplus military helicopters are being used for criminal purposes in Colombia. The Defense Ministry said Thursday that five U.S.-supplied DM-500 scouting helicopters from the Israeli Air Force had been sold to Colombia’s aviation authority two years ago. But reports reached Tel Aviv that the aircraft had ended up in the hands of a private transport company suspected of working with local criminal groups.
