Israel Jefroykin, author and leader in world Jewish affairs, died here yesterday at the age of 70.
Born in Russia, M. Jefroykin fled that country after the Bolshevik revolution and eventually settled in France where he became active in communal and immigration activities. He held many top positions in the French Jewish community, including the honorary presidency of the Federation of Jewish Societies of France.
He wrote a number of books and edited various publications. In his earlier years he was a leader of the Jewish territorial movement and later was one of the top figures of the Jewish Peoples Party. During the Nazi occupation of France he succeeded in escaping to Uruguay. He returned to Paris after the liberation of the city.
