An appeal to Jews throughout the world to intensify their efforts in behalf of the immigrants living in Israel’s semi-permanent and transit work camps was voiced here today by Labor Minister Golda Myerson. Mrs. Myerson, who has been placed in charge of coordinating the various government programs for immigrants in the camps, made her appeal during a discussion in the Parliament.
Mrs. Myerson, who just returned from a tour of work camps in Southern Israel, stressed that despite the great hardships being endured by the immigrants, progress has been made in improving their lot. She praised the work of the Jewish Agency and the Jewish National Fund in this respect, pointing out that the recently-announced J.N.F. program for land reclamation on a large scals will provide between three and four years of steady work for the immigrants. The same immigrants, she added, will then be able to move onto small farms on the land which they had improved under the J.N.F. program.
