Israel may ask for a debate at the United Nations Security Council on Egypt’s “piratical” seizure of the 500-ton Israeli vessel “Bat Galim” in the Suez Canal, it was learned here following a meeting of the Cabinet. Meanwhile, it was reported that the captain and the nine other crewmen have been taken off the “Bat Galim” and have been sent to Cairo for interrogation.
(In Washington, Israel Ambassador Abba Eban conferred this week-end with Deputy Under-Secretary of State Robert D. Murphy, in connection with the seizure by Egypt of the Israel vessel “Bat Galim” in the Suez Canal. Mr. Eban said that Israel demands the unconditional release of the ship. He revealed that Mr. Murphy promised to give the matter “full consideration. “
The Cabinet also heard Defense Minister Pinchas Lavon on the security situation, with particular reference to recent attacks from Jordan and Egyptian territory. In the last 24 hours four Israelis, including two very young children, have been wounded in incidents in the Jerusalem area.
