Future immigration into Israel depends on the development of the Negev, Dr. Joseph Burg, Minister for Social Welfare of the State of Israel, said on his arrival here for a tour of major communities in the United States and Canada in behalf of the Israel bond drive. Prior to his arrival in New York, Dr. Burg spoke at the first meeting of his tour in Montreal.
“Our hopes for the economic future of Israel,” Dr. Burg said, “our plans for taking in large numbers of Jews, are bound up with the success of our effort to reclaim the desert, to establish new industries, to make the Negev a center of mass settlement. This is the most decisive economic task confronting Israel today.”
