Israel Minister of Development Mordecai Bentov met with Italian Socialist Party leader Pietro Nenni today for a discussion of Israel and Middle East problems. Mr. Bentov, who is currently visiting Italy, is a leader of the Mapam Party, whose political position in the Socialist movement is somewhat akin to that of Mr. Nennis party.
Mr. Bentov expressed himself as “impressed by Nenni’s friendly interests toward Israel’s problems.” He added that he was convinced that “Italy does not want to see an Israel-Arab war, but it is insufficiently aware of Israel’s repeated offers of peace to the Arabs and of the Arab governments’ press and radios threatening to destroy Israel.”
