Negotiations opened today on a request by the Israel Government for large-scale U. S. food assistance, the State Department made known. The accord, when concluded, would provide Israel with its first official aid from American since the outbreak of hostilities.
Israel was said to be seeking agricultural commodities valued at nearly $30 million under the terms of the Public Law 480 known as the “Food For Peace” program.
