The Israel Foreign Ministry instructed its representatives in major capitals today to notify the governments there that Israel was gravely concerned over increasing border incidents perpetrated by the new Arab terrorist group, El Fatah.
These governments have been urging restraint on Israel in the face of these attacks. Now they will be told that they must realize that Israel cannot acquiesce to such an “intolerable” situation. The issue was already emphasized last week by Premier Levi Eshkol in meeting with United States Ambassador Walworth Barbour. A warning was also conveyed to Jordan from whose territory the terrorists are currently operating.
The most recent incident attributed to the Fatah marauders was a mine explosion in the Jerusalem corridor a half mile from the Jordanian border yesterday, when an Israel border police patrol car hit the weapon. Four occupants were injured, one seriously.
An editorial in Haborker, the General Zionist newspaper, declared today that there had been six attacks in the past month and that, in all cases, tracks led to the Jordanian border. “We do not doubt that Jordan must bear full responsibility for these acts,” the editorial said. An editorial in Herut criticized the Government for alleged inactivity which, the newspaper said, only encouraged the raids.
