The chances of strengthening Israel-Indian cooperation in health, agriculture, development of water resources and other fields were described as “good” today, by Gideon Rafael, assistant director-general of Israel’s Foreign Ministry. Mr. Rafael recently returned from New Delhi where he held conversations with Krishna Menon and acting Foreign Minister Lakshmi Menon.
Mr. Rafael said that the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries would depend on the development of practical relations. He reported that India promised that the recently opened Arab League office in New Delhi would not be permitted to interfere with Israel-Indian and other Israel-Asian relations. Mr. Rafael pointed out that although the Arab League requested a separate League office, India permitted the opening of the office solely as an adjunct to the Lebanese embassy.
