A number of Israel political parties — including the Liberals, Herut, National Religious and Agudath Israel — are now considering launching their own fund-raising campaigns in the United States and other countries in competition with the United Jewish Appeal, should the Jewish Agency go through with cutting allocations to the parties, it was indicated here today. The Agency’s executive is scheduled to decide next month on a proposal by Aryeh L. Pincus, chairman of the Jewish Agency executive, to cut subsidies to political parties.
Israel political parties have received $3, 000, 000 a year on condition that they do not conduct independent fund-raising drives. The parties have informed the Agency that, should it adopt the proposed cutting of subsidies, they will consider themselves free of their obligations and launch their own campaigns in competition with the UJA.
