The United Nations has received from the Government of Israel full payment for two reparations claims presented by the organization in connection with the death of Colonel Andre Serot, UN military observer from France, the UN Legal Department announced here today. Col. Serot was killed in Jerusalem on Sept. 17, 1948, together with Count Folke Bernadotte, UN mediator in Palestine.
These payments amounted to $25, 233 and $575 respectively. $25, 000 paid by the UN to Col. Serot’s widow, and $233 for funeral expenses incurred. The sum of $575 represents the equivalent of 200,000 French francs, the claim sought by Col. Serot’s 89-year-old father, which was presented by the United Nations on his behalf.
