The Israel Government announced today creation of a special committee to deal with the rehabilitation of Arab refugees. The committee will be headed by Raanan Weitz of the Jewish Agency.
The Government also decided to permit all Arab refugees who left their homes after Israel’s occupation of the west bank to return within 40 days. The decision exempted security risks, a category believed to refer to members of the Palestine Liberation Army and other known Arab guerrillas.
In most parts of the Jordanian territory now occupied by Israel, full cooperation has been established between the Arab local authorities and the Israel military governor with nearly all civic services restored to normal operation. The military governor also said that local Arab police in the areas would soon be armed again to enable them to carry out their duties.
