The 96-member Israel Philharmonic Orchestra will tour the United States for ten weeks beginning in January, it was revealed here today. Guest conductors will include Serge Koussevitzky, Leonard Bernstein and Paul Paray. The orchestra will visit 30 cities in the United States and Canada.
Israel’s first electric bulb factory was formally opened in Haifa yesterday and it is expected that the plant will be able to satisfy all domestic demands. The factory can produce 1,000 bulbs hourly and will market its products under the name, “Or-in.” Most of the manufacturing equipment and raw materials were imported from the United States.
The 29th Negev settlement was established yesterday by immigrants from Rumania, Hungary and Poland affiliated with the Noar Zioni movement. The new colony, named “Tzur Maon,” is located in the western Negev and is made up of youths who were detained on Cyprus and later served in the Israel Army.
