The central committee of the Israel Medical Association has appealed to Prime Minister David Ben Gurion to intervene in the salaried physicians’ struggle for better conditions. In a communique issued here, the central committee stated that its request followed Kupat Holim’s refusal to discuss the salaries of physicians in its clinics.
Suggestions to “correct grading anomalies among publicly employed engineers” without raising their basic salaries were presented to the Histadrut central committee. The proposals were submitted by Simha Blass, head of the Histadrut’s professional employees department. He advocated a tax reduction for publicly employed engineers as well as an increase of the tax free minimum.
Ahdut Avodah and Mapam were pressing for a general wage rise, while Mapai representatives in Histadrut favor Mr. Blass’ plan. A decision is expected within the next fortnight.
