Israel plans to release 170 Palestinian prisoners next week. The decision was made Sunday, officially as a reciprocal gesture to Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, who released an Israeli accused of spying earlier this month, but also to bolster the chances of Palestinian presidential candidate Mahmoud Abbas in Jan. 9 elections.
