Israel pleaded the cause of disarmament today in the United Nations General Assembly’s Political and Security Committee. Michael Comay, member of the Israel delegation, reminded the representatives of the nations of the world that one of his ancestors had made the original disarmament proposal–that the nations beat their swords into ploughshares.
Mr. Comay acknowledged that the task of the UN disarmament commission would be long and involved, but in the name of humanity, he urged, the hope of disarmament must be made a reality. He expressed the opinion that a commission with great freedom of inspection was necessary and that it would not encroach upon national sovereignty.
