Israeli political circles expressed considerable satisfaction here today over the United States decision to ask the United Nations to halt assistance to those Arab refugees undergoing military training. The U.S. decision followed an announcement by the Palestine Liberation Organization that Arab refugees would fight in Viet Nam against American forces.
Israeli officials here recalled that, for a long time, Israel has been requesting the United Nations to check the lists of the U.N. Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees and to bar assistance to members of the El Fatah and other terrorist groups. The officials welcomed the fact that the United States, which provides 70 percent of the UNRWA budget, has become the first government to take what is considered here as a “just” step.
