An appeal to Israel, and to all nations to employ “most powerful resolve” in the next year to insure peace throughout the world “and especially in the Middle East,” was voiced here today by President Izhak Ben-Zvi in his annual New Year message.
In a special “5722 Rosh Hashanah” message, addressed to all Israelis, to Jews in all other countries, and to the world at large, the Israeli President expressed his wishes for a New Year of “well-being and prosperity. ” He summarized Israel’s accomplishments in the economic and social fields in the past year, referred in his message to the increase in immigration, and recalled that “the machinations of our adversaries are unending.”
“They do not cease, ” he pointed out, “at any and every opportunity, to proclaim a war of extinction upon the State of Israel and upon its people. ” He concluded his message by stating:
“We must not be blind to the dark clouds that gather in the skies of international politics in all five Continents, in the East and in the West. Only by virtue of the most powerful resolve to strengthen peace against the evil appetites of war can we hope to insure peace between nation and nation, between country and country all over the globe, and especially in the Middle East, where we belong. May it be the will of the Almighty to grant our prayer for the Peace of Israel and a peace of Truth between nations everywhere on earth.”
