If the Iron Curtain countries were to open their doors to Jewish emigration, “no ceiling” would be placed by Israel on the numbers to be admitted from these countries, Mrs. Rose Halprin, member of the Jewish Agency executive, reported here today following her return from Israel. She said that barring unforeseen circumstances, from 40,000 to 60,000 immigrants were expected to arrive in Israel this year from such localities as North Africa and Western Europe.
Speaking on the economic situation, Mrs. Halprin said that “the Jewish Agency and the Israeli Government had a family meeting to see how they could improve the business investment situation in Israel.” She reported that nearly $48,000,000 has been invested by American and Canadian investors since the establishment of the Jewish State. She predicted that the development of the Negev would prove to be a large potential dollar earner.
