The Iraqi Government is prepared to release three Israeli citizens removed at Bagdad from a British plane forced down by an emergency, Awni Khalidy, Iraq’s chief delegate at the UN, announced this week-end.
Mr. Khalidy said his government would release the three Israelis–one man and two women–on condition that Israel release seven Iraqi soldiers the Iraqi charge Israel has held since 1948. Taking note of Israel’s repeated insistence that it does not hold the seven men, Mr. Khalidy said his government is willing to release the three Israeli civilians on condition Israel guarantee that the soldiers will be released “whenever they find them.”
