Israel is currently developing a “longer-range model” of its Shavit II rocket, according to “Spacecraft and Missiles of the World,” a directory compiled by James Baar and William E. Howard and published here by Harcourt, Brace-World. The Israel rocket is described in the directory as a “surface-to-surface” missile with a 70-mile range and a speed of Mach 5. The directory said that Shavit II is equipped with a conventional high explosive warhead “and possibly nuclear.”
