Israel, Rumania in Agriculture Accord

Israel and Rumania signed a new agricultural cooperation agreement in Jerusalem today at the end of a four-day visit by Rumanian Food and Agriculture Minister Angelo Miculescu. The agreement, signed for Israel by Agriculture Minister Aharon Uzan, provides for exchange of experts and of technical know how, and for increased Israeli export to Rumania of citrus and/or irrigation equipment.

One provision calls for Israel to send several hundred sheep along with expert sheep breeders to aid Rumanian breeders increase their sheeps’ milk yield–currently only one-third of the Israeli average. Israel also agreed to provide six scholarships for Rumanian post-graduate agronomists to spend time in Israeli agricultural institutions. The Rumanian Minister spent part of his visit at Kibbutz Yifat, as guest of former Agriculture Minister Haim Gvati who invited him to Israel.
