The S.S. Kedma, flagship of the Israel mercantile fleet and only Israeli passenger line in service, was sold to a British company last week, it was announced today.
Numerous repairs were necessary before the Kedma was put into passenger service. Before it was sold, the vessel had managed to set a record for the Marseilles-Haifa run, three days.
The S.S. Kommemiuth, one-time immigrant blockade runner which later became part of Israel’s maritime fleet, has been sold to a British scrap company for breaking up. It left Haifa yesterday on its final voyage.
A new shipping line, the “Judges of Israel” company, has been organized to operate between Israel and the United States, it was reported here today. The line’s first vessel will sail December 5, according to the report.
The Shoham Shipping Company has obtained two 12-year-old freighters for use in the citrus trade. They are the 10,000 ton ship Sanbrest and the 3,600 ton freighter Main.
