Israeli naval units shelled a terrorist base on the Lebanese coast north of Tripoli today in retaliation for this morning’s terrorist assault on Nahariya. The base was used by George Habash’s Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The Nahariya terrorists were members of a gang that broke away from the Habash group. They were in possession of Kalachnikof rifles revolvers, hand grenades, explosives and other equipment.
Israeli security circles, meanwhile, prepared for further terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians. A Palestine Liberation Organization broadcast from Beirut today vowed that terrorist activity against Israel would be intensified and exhorted the Arab world to recognize that the war against Israel has not ended.
Meanwhile, Maj. Saad Haddad, commander of the Christian militia In south Lebanon, sent a telegram of condolence to the Mayor of Nahariya over the terrorist attack. Brig. I. Zeid, commander of civil defense, visited Nahariya today and urged that every family be equipped with arms.
