Israel should welcome the creation of a Palestinian state, former Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres said Saturday. “I say as a politician, there is nothing better for the State of Israel than a free Palestinian state,” Peres said at an international poets festival. Some Israeli pundits are speculating that Peres will become a Cabinet minister in the new government, while others say he will become U.N. ambassador or Israel’s next president.
