Israel sought clarification from Iran regarding reports of the execution of a Jewish community leader there, according to Israel’s deputy defense minister. Silvan Shalom told the Knesset that Israel had appealed to the Red Cross, the United Nations and other international organizations to verify the report and to learn what has happened to other Jews who have been arrested in Iran.
