Synagogues throughout Israel were unusually crowded for Yom Kippur services yesterday. Traffic in the Jewish state was at a complete standstill during the entire 24-hour period.
Special prayers for the welfare of the new state and the well-being of the President and other government leaders were recited. Traditional memorial services for the dead included prayers for those who fell in the Arab-Israel fighting last year. Particular emphasis was laid on prayers offered for the liberation of Jerusalem.
