Emile Najar, Israel delegate on the General Assembly’s Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Committee, today told the committee that he sees no reason for adopting resolutions which the member states are not ready to implement.
Mr. Najar directed his remarks specifically to the first article of the proposed human rights covenants under discussion now. The first article deals with the right of self-determination. Since Israel accepts that right on principle but knows that some countries are not as yet ready to act in accordance with that principle, it will abstain when the issue comes to a vote.
