A 550-foot long dam at Mashabei Sadeh, in the Southern Negev, will shortly be completed in the rapidly rising network of dams and reservoirs being constructed in that desert area to trap and use for irrigation flood waters which have heretofore gone to waste, it was announced today by David Fox, director of the Israel Government’s soil conservation department.

Mr. Fox pointed out that the water saving project has been undertaken with the assistance of the United States Operations Mission in Israel. Water saved under the reservoir network will be used to irrigate an additional 100,000 dunams (25,000 acres) of land in the Negev.
