Israel’s stand on the issue of admitting the People’s Republic of China to the United Nations will be discussed here with Yosef Tekoah, Israel’s ambassador to the UN, when he arrives later this week. The government’s official position has conformed to the theory of “two Chinas” -admitting Peking but not at the expense of Taiwan. However, when questioned tonight on this theory, Foreign Ministry spokesman Avraham Avidar declined to reiterate this stand. Israel recognized Communist China in 1949 but no diplomatic relations were established. The Peking government has been a consistent and sometimes extreme supporter of Arab anti-Israeli moves.
