Negotiations to establish a “national unity” Israeli Cabinet have reached the penultimate stage, according to reliable reports today. The reports said that the projected Cabinet will include two Ministers each from the opposition National Workers Party (Rafi) and the Gahal alignment of Liberals and the Herut.
Prime Minister Levi Eshkol has been meeting throughout the evening tonight with Ministers and with leaders of the two opposition parties. Among names mentioned as possible new Ministers were Moshe Dayan and Shimon Peres of Rafi, founded by former Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion, and Arye Ben-Eliezer, Menahem Begin and Yosef Saphir of Gahal. Large sections of the population have been increasingly asking recently for such a Cabinet which it is felt would be more representative of the national feeling during Israel’s current problems with Egypt.
