Israel plans to order from Japanese shipyards two brand new supertankers to carry oil to the refineries at Haifa, Arieh Rosen, an official of Zim Israel Navigation Lines, revealed here yesterday. Mr. Rosen is en route to Japan to supervise, in behalf of the Israel Government, the construction details of the huge vessels.
Mr. Rosen, who said delivery is expected in two years, said the tankers would have a displacement of between 47,000 and 52,000 tons, making them the largest vessels in Israel’s maritime service. He estimated their cost at $8,000,000 each.
