The Israel Government today announced that it will permit German vessels to bring reparations goods to Israeli ports. The announcement said that it had been decided to forego a limitation on the transportation of German reparations goods to Israel ports in German vessels, which was included in the reparations agreement signed between the two states in Luxemburg last year.
It explained that with the German Parliament ratifying the reparations pact the treaty would have the effect of a German law. Such a law discriminating against German ships would be “impossible,” the announcement pointed out. However, it said that Israeli freighters would receive priority in cargo assignments because the organization of the delivery schedule for German reparations payments would be in the hands of Israelis.
