The Treasury Department today requested Parliament to grant an additional budget item of 40,000,000 pounds ($22,000,000) half of which would be for defense expenditures. The other half of the supplemental budget is earmarked for educational, social welfare and other services.
No extra taxation is requested by the Treasury Department to cover the additional budget items; they are expected to be met out of customs duties which are running ahead of earlier estimates. The regular budget for the next fiscal year calls for expenditures totaling 740,000,000 pounds ($412,500,000).
