Israel’s Foreign Ministry weighed today the possibility of lodging a complaint with the United Nations Security Council against Egyptian detention of the 3,000-ton Greek freighter Parnon, seized as it sought passage through the Suez Canal with a cargo of asphalt for the Israeli port of Eilat and of Israeli products for Kenya and other East African destinations.
Seizure of the ship and cargo was described here as illegal and it was pointed out that the asphalt consigned to Eilat could not be considered “strategic” material.
