The Israel Government has decided not to trans port Abyssinian Jews to the Jewish state, it was learned here today.
Reports were recently received that the Falasha Jews of Ethiopia desired to immigrate to Israel. The Joint Distribution Committee began consultations with the Israel Government on the speediest manner of transporting the new immigrants and a medical mission was dispatohed to Ethiopia. The mission, however, reported that the bulk of the Falasha Jews were suffering from an inberited infectious disease and the goverment decided not to permit the mass migration.
The Jewish Agency today reported that a total of 264,372 new immigrants were absorbed in Israel from the founding of the Jewish state to Jan. 1,1950. of them, more than 165,000 were settled in towns, 35,000 in colonies, 27,000 in kibbutzim, 16,000 in the Youth Aliyah settlements and 17,000 joined the Israel armed forces.
