The Israel Government today indicated that it will not oppose private trading with West Germany, providing the Germans pay for Israel goods in cash, not in goods.
The indication was given following an inquiry addressed to the government by the Association of Israel Citrus Growers asking whether there is any opposition on the part of the government to the export of citrus products to Germany. The reply was that there will be no objection providing the trading is not conducted on a barter basis.
Eight Germans have visited Israel since the state was set up, Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett told Parliament. They included three Germans who had actively helped save Jews from the Nazis and five aged mothers of German girls who had married Jews and come to Israel to settle with their husbands. IN addition. Mr. Sharett revealed, 30 other Germans have requested visas to enter the country.
