Israel will welcome Palestinian elections, but wants to see a crackdown on terrorism before it returns to negotiations, its foreign minister said. Silvan Shalom, in Cleveland on Sunday for the annual General Assembly of the United Jewish Communities federation umbrella group, lauded the prospect of January elections in Iraq and said, “Of course, we would like the Palestinians to do the same in the near future.”
