An official communique announced today that as a result of meetings which took place yesterday between Lt. Col. Moshe Dayan, Israeli commander in the Jerusalem area, and Lt. Col. Abdullah Bey el Tel, commander of the Arab Legion in Jerusalem, orders have been issued to both the Israeli Army and the Arab Legion, as well as to the irregular units attached to the Legion in the Jerusalem region, to cease sniping. The actual cease-fire went into effect at 8:00 A.M., Jerusalem time.

Prior to the hour when the cease-fire order went into effect, after both commanders had ended their talks, the Arabs started shelling the southern outskirts of Jerusalem. At the same time Arab snipers wounded two Jewish soldiers. Heavy fire was also opened up yesterday by the Arabs in the Old City against Jewish positions near the Jaffa Gate. Last evening, the Arabs shelled the city again.
