An Israeli border policeman was shot and killed yesterday during a two-and-a-half hour exchange of fire with Jordanian troops near Baka el-Charbiyah in central Israel, a military spokesman reported here today.
Israel informed the Mixed Armistice Commission that the Jordanians started the clash by firing on a routine patrol. The Israeli spokesman made no mention of any Jordanian casualties. United Nations military observers immediately opened an investigation into the incident.
