Israeli taxicab operators have decided not to operate their vehicles on Saturdays, they disclosed today. Because of the fuel shortage the country faces, the cab operators were given their choice by the Government of laying up their cars on two weekdays each week or on the Sabbath. Religious groups had urged the Government to make the Sabbath stoppage compulsory while the Mapai (Labor) forces insisted that there be free choice.
