The Israeli Cabinet met today in the Jewish Agency headquarters here to consider a report by Brig, Gen, Yeacov Dori, Chief of Staff of the Israeli Army, on the present situation in the so-called Arab “bloody triangle” in central Palestine.
Arab Legion forces began evacuation today of forward positions in the triangle area and retirement to the new demarcation line fixed in the Israeli-Trans Jordan armistice last month. The operation will take three days and will be carried out in stages.
Under the armistice agreement terms, Israel will pay Trans Jordan the cost of constructing a new 30-kilometer highway to replace the Qalqilya-Tulkarem road which will now lie in Israeli territory, after the Arab Legion completes its evacuation.
