Israeli combat helicopters attacked Palestinian targets in the Gaza Strip and West Bank. The attack came after the Israeli army said it planned to take the offensive against Palestinian gunmen to prevent attacks on soldiers and Jewish settlers. It also came after one Israeli security guard was killed and another was seriously wounded when suspected Arab assailants shot them at close range in eastern Jerusalem.
