Eight leading manufacturers of drugs in Israel have formed an export firm, in cooperation with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, to sell drugs in the overseas market, it was announced here today. The drugs, to be exported under a common label, have already been received favorably by foreign buyers. The new firm is expected to export between $3,000,000 and $4,000,000 worth of drugs annually.
At the same time, it was announced today that Baker, Perkins, Ltd., a prominent British firm, has signed a preliminary agreement for production in Israel of a bromide compound, using an inexpensive process invented by the Israel Mining Industries. The new process enriches relatively poor ores.
The British firm will erect a pilot plant at Sdom, at a cost of $250,000, and will also advance $115,000 annually toward obtaining a supply of bromide. The project is expected to open new possibilities for increasing Israeli exports.
