Israeli fighter planes today intercepted two Egyptian MIG-17 jets over the Nitzana area in the south of Israel, the Army spokesman announced here. After the clash, in which one of the Egyptian planes was presumably hit, the UAR Jets returned to Egyptian territory. All of the Israeli fighters returned safely to their base, the official communique stated.
(A report from Cairo, meanwhile, claimed that one Israeli plane was shot down over the Sinai Desert this morning, while other planes withdrew to Israeli territory. The Cairo dispatch said that all Egyptian planes returned safely.)
