Israeli forces uncovered a tunnel dug by Palestinian terrorists to carry out an attack from the Gaza Strip.
Troops operating in northern Gaza early Tuesday found a 16-foot-deep tunnel some 700 yards from the border, its access hole concealed by a building.
The operation touched off clashes with local gunmen. Two armed members of the Popular Resistance Committees terrorist group were killed. There were no Israeli casualties.
Israeli security sources said the tunnel was likely intended for terrorists to infiltrate the Jewish state and kidnap hostages or conduct shooting sprees.
