Israeli Foreign Minister Ariel Sharon told Jewish organizational leaders he favors a national unity government as a way to solve the long-term problems facing all Jews. Speaking in New York to the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations, following a high-level visit to Washington, Sharon also urged that the issue of Israel’s continuing presence in Lebanon be dealt with separately from peace negotiations with Syria.
